Information for Parents

Good Beginnings is a charity that helps children get off to a good start in life through a range of innovative and tested programs designed to strengthen their families and communities.

Those early years are so critical.  Often it is when parents are under the most strain financially, and then there may be other factors such as postnatal depression (see below), isolation from family and support, and illness.  It is a proven fact that high stress in the early years can cause neurological and developmental harm in a child.  Coincidentally, it is also during this early period that parents are more open to change their own parenting behaviour.

It is by reinforcing parental capacity through skills, information and support that parents can make positive changes.

Post Natal Depression (PND)

There are the "Baby Blues" which affect many mothers in the early days of parenting and does not last long, but Postnatal depression is a form of depression experienced by mothers that impacts on all members of the family and can affect the emotional development of the baby.
