Bent on Food Fundraising Dinner

The Good Beginnings support group comprising  5 local women including Sue Russell  representing the  local program, and RS as chair, has initiated a series of small informal dinners as a regular fundraiser for the local program.

The first of these was held the day following the program launch in order that Sydney visitors could attend. We were delighted that Barbara Wellesley and John Clark could participate.  The Mayor, Cr Paul Hogan and Mrs Hogan attended as did the GTCC General Manager Gerard Jose.

A donation of $25 was sought from each guest (28 ) and with an auction of 3 children’s paintings ( from a Regional Art Gallery Exhibition for Children’s Week) and a little girl’s apron, the event raised $1,100 for the local program.

Three additional  small dinners are planned for this year with a different theme for each one. The idea is to maintain a level of informality and opportunity to network and to avoid the full-on ‘part with your money’ attitude.
While we plan to invite different people to each event, many of those at the first dinner have requested invitations to the next one.

Attendees include local business people, civic leaders and the general community members. The list of people interested in supporting Good Beginnings is ever expanding as is the awareness of the needs of children and their families in the area.

Note; Additional fundraisers for GB Taree include sale of ‘Cooking and Looking in the Manning Valley’ ( initial donation might be possible mid 2009) and a repeat ‘Mothers and Daughters day’ is  planned by individual supporters.

Flair Awards as an annual supporter is donating  $1 from each entrance fee to the March ’09 Bridal Expo.  An attendance of several hundred is expected. Flair organises excellent annual media publicity for Good Beginnings.
